INTRO
Hey there, I’m Ashley Kim, a clinical mental health counseling intern. Throughout my career, I have focused on supporting individuals, especially children, who are neurodivergent or who struggle to navigate a world that often feels overwhelming or mismatched to their needs. Over the years, I’ve developed a strong understanding of how neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD and autism, behavioral challenges, limited communication skills, and sensory sensitivities can impact emotional well-being and mental health.
PHILOSOPHY
Navigating life can come with anxiety, and emotional distress, especially in a world that can be loud, fast, and demanding. My work centers on helping individuals feel better supported, understood, and equipped to navigate these challenges with greater confidence. Many of the individuals I work with have spent years adapting, masking, or feeling as though something is “wrong” with them. This experience can be exhausting and deeply isolating. I think that everyone deserves compassion, respect, and meaningful connection. I also believe that differences in how we think, feel, and experience the world are not deficits.
APPROACH
Progress is not about perfection, it often looks like increased understanding, improved regulation, and feeling more confident navigating challenges as they arise. My approach to therapy is supportive, collaborative, and practical. I believe that people, at any age, are experts on themselves. My role is to work alongside clients to identify sources of distress, increase emotional regulation, and find ways to reduce stress so life feels more manageable and less overwhelming. The goal of therapy is not to change who you are or to reduce you to a diagnosis. Instead, therapy is a space to build understanding, develop skills, and support growth in ways that honor each individual’s unique needs and strengths.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Clients can expect therapy to be a safe, non-judgmental space that prioritizes working together, curiosity, and emotional safety. Sessions may include conversation, skill-building, reflection, and problem-solving tailored to current needs and goals. When working with children, I incorporate play-based approaches to help build confidence, emotional
regulation skills, communication, and self-expression. For older children and adolescents, sessions may blend play, discussion, and practical tools to support emotional awareness and coping.
